We are always working on GOV.UK, and trying to improve the site and we will continue to do more user research and make any necessary adjustments as needed.
Our policy is for GOV.UK, and we understand that those creating information online need to carefully decide if the image needs to be described using alt text. For GOV.UK, our guidance advises that by describing the image in the body text, we can make sure the description is accessible to as many people as possible. We chose not to do both to prevent audio clutter and content repetition.
